She Don't Like Me, Shawty, Man She Like My Garms!
Politicians hide themselves away / They only started the war / Why should they go out to fight? / They leave that all to the poor / Time will tell on their power minds
A couple of garms that look Regular at a glance but a peek below the surface reveals so much more. An anti-tech device. Skateboarding’s new Hair-a. And the genius behind the meteoric rise of Rob Dyrdek.

Newcomer Reversible Knit Sweater by Butter Goods

We’re always on the hunt for a deal, and there’s none better than a 2-for-1 reversible garm. Butter consistently comes through with the Goods, and this season they hit us with a beautifully constructed knit sweater that you could spruce up for special occasions or flip around to freak a lil alien fella when the occasion calls for something More. The Australian soft goods brand has been steadily banging us over the head with some of the best garms and spectacular video projects since way back in the doom and gloom of 2008. Their main inspiration, beyond the obvious Golden Era of skateboarding and their own Aussie scene, is a deep love of music as referenced through their designs, skate videos, and collaborations. Music is the great equalizer that crosses all Soldiers and cliques, just like Butter Goods garms and skate program. Their newest video, Extra Life, showcases all that Butter is and their eye toward Global Domination. An opener set to a lovely jazz tune and the SF styles of Chris Athans, Aussie Shaun Paul and Brit Dougie George share a little snippet, Aleka Lang and Philly Santosuosso pull up in their signature ultra-baggy kits, and Italy’s Jacopo Carozzi closes it out in Janoski Slips and sunglasses. Everyone works the Butter garms into their own pure style, reminding us that the best brands serve Every Soldier by staying genuine and authentic to themselves.

GORE-TEX WINDSTOPPER Cord Pant by thisisneverthat

Corduroy! GORE-TEX! Pants!!!!!! Three simple words, not often seen together, that make our heart skip a beat. South Korea’s thisisneverthat hit us with a stunning new collection of GORE-TEX garms just in time for the torrential fall downpours. The internet was abuzz about the completely cracked crewneck - a reversible knit slapper with a Coogi flow on one side and GORE-TEX Windstopper protection on the other. We had tunnel vision on the cords from the jump. Produced in a lovely plum color (and navy), they’re a relaxed fit carpenter pant in 8 wale corduroy lined with GORE-TEX to protect you in the dark days of the Fall/Winter garm season. Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and pairing these with the matching bomber-style jacket would undoubtedly make you the most Fitted at the function. The pants feature an elastic waist and drawcord adjustment, so you would also be ready for the post-dinner bulge without having to sacrifice any of your swag. And if your uncle needs a hand deep-frying the bird or your brother-in-law wants to get rinsed in a game of pigskin, you can step right Outside and handle business at the drop of a hat. If it’s a particularly cold or rainy one, grab the bally for full coverage.
EQUIPMENT
F91W-1 Watch by Casio

Technology is everywhere. Get that Shit off your wrist. There’s no need for constant buzzing or monitoring your heart rate or whatever other BullShit story they tell us to consume every aspect of everyday life with devices. Get back to basics with an old fashioned wrist watch. The sad reality of modern life is that we need to be aware of the time at all times, but that doesn’t mean you need to rely on checking your phone and it certainly doesn’t mean you need a teeny tiny watch-sized phone on your wrist. All you need is a cheap little time teller like the Casio F91-W, a classic for nearly 40 years and less than $30. Full disclosure: we go digital because we’re slow and telling time with the hands is difficult. Blame technology!!!
FIELD NOTES
SOLDIER OF THE WEEK
Hair

We’re one of many Soldiers currently embracing a new Hair-a of skateboarding - grow it out, baby! Mason Silva’s part in Real’s Oval was as much a coming out party for his furry dome as it was a showcase of what made him Thrasher’s Skater of the Year in 2020. He joined Real’s group of handsome hair-havers like Patrick Praman and Toby Ryan. Shaun Paul had us locked on his locks in Butter Goods’ new one. Huf’s Box-Truck showed off the long-haired styles of Erik Herrera, Salomon Cardenas, and newcomer Daiki Hoshino. And the new Asics video, The Sound, welcomed Simon Bannerot (Seattle’s answer to Tosh Townend) to the squad. If you’ve got it, flaunt it!
ENEMY OF THE WEEK
Rob Dyrdek

Rob Dyrdek is the most fascinating human being to ever emerge from the primordial melting soup of skateboarding. Did you even know he was a professional skateboarder? Before MTV superstardom, Dyrdek helped put Ohio and Alien Workshop on the map with banging parts in classic videos and high-profile signature shoes with DC. His appearance in 2003’s “The DC Video” provided his springboard to mainstream success, turning the iconic skit with Big Black (RIP) into a series of MTV shows, spinoffs, and eventually 46 seasons (?) of an air-filling show called “Ridiculousness” where Rob and guests made commentary about viral internet videos. The run finally came to an end recently, but the hustle doesn’t end for the hustler. Rob’s been in the grindset grift for a bit, offering unique insights into the mind of a successful business man on his podcast “Build with Rob” since 2021. Now he’s offering the key to his success directly to You through his innovative new calendar app, Existence, which blends Rob’s maniacal obsession with efficiency and the wonderful powers of Artificial Intelligence. “I created this so that everybody could easily account for their time, optimize their time, and thus optimize their quality of life.” You, too, can account for your time and optimize your quality of life by paying Rob Dyrdek for a calendar app. The announcement video is really something to watch, primarily to see Rob dressed like some alternate reality Steve Jobs, trading his Budget Kalis look for an all-black Tech CEO costume complete with an Oura ring and a little boy’s haircut. As Rob says in closing, “I really want people to understand the POWER of understanding time at the highest level.” What ever happened to washed up pros going into real estate and leaving us alone?
You’re now up to speed on the latest from the battlefield. Use this intel wisely and pass it on to others who may need our guidance. We can’t win the war unless we’re in it together.
